Short biography
A writer and researcher, Deacon was a Devonian Quaker who lived on Dartmoor. After her retirement as secretary to the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, she devoted herself to the study of Thomas Hardy, focusing particularly on his relationship to women. She reinterpreted Hardy's play Tragedy of the Queen of Cornwall, including Tryphena as one of the Iseults in the Tristan and Iseult legend.
