The daughter of Thomas Gilbert, Gilbert was an agriculturalist who later married Davies Giddy, the Cornish author, engineer, and politician.

Full biography

Giddy took her surname on marriage, which enabled the couple to inherit extensive property in Sussex from her uncle, who had no male heir.

She managed practical agronomical experiments at Beachy Head, and was a prominent member of the Labourer's Friend Society. She wrote on practical agricultural matters, advocated for impoverished agricultural labourers, and contributed illustrations to Thomas Bond's work on Looe.
