Short biography
A Cornish writer, social worker, and member of the Foot family.
Full biography
She was the daughter of the diplomat and politician Hugh Foot, niece of the former Labour leader Michael Foot, and sister of the campaigning journalist Paul Foot. She grew up in Jamaica and in Cyprus, where her father was the Governor, before joining the Evening Standard as a trainee journalist.
She married her father’s aide-de-camp, Timothy Burbury, and worked for the Africa Bureau, before moving to St. Mellion in Cornwall, where she became women’s editor of the Western Morning News. She wrote extensively on Cornwall and the West Country, authoring several books on the rivers of Cornwall.
